Students looking for a humorous break from the usual night out have an entertaining option in the Short North’s comedy and theater offerings at 2Co’s Cabaret. Located at 790 N High Street the Cabaret offers a killer combination of skit comedy and music, that keeps patrons coming back.
2Co’s is the product of parent company Shadow Box Cabaret located at Easton Town Center. Fans of Shadow Box will certainly want to check this out.
Most recently Twisted Tales has the Cabaret packed with people. Not the typical trick-or-treat story, 2Co’s does spooky in a way all their own, with humor meeting eerie.
The mixture of a live band, short plays, skits and monologues give 2Co’s a unique atmosphere. Many of the acts are reminiscent of a Saturday Night Live skit sans the famous guest. Patrons will find themselves tapping their feet to hit songs of the past as well as a few 2Co’s originals.
2Co’s also hosts a gallery to bring interesting art to the theater. Most recently local artist Robert Walker displayed his work for patrons of the Cabaret to enjoy.
Halloween is not the only seasonal show to be found at 2Co’s. In the upcoming months, 2Co’s will gear up for the anticipated holiday special, Christmas at 2Co’s.
Aside from the on-stage performers, patrons beware that they will inevitably become part of the show. Waiters and waitresses are not simply around for food and drink pleasure, but are the actors, singers and performers that hit the stage just after they have served up orders.
Audience participation is not optional at 2Co’s, where the table service is often the funniest part of the evening. As a first-timer to 2Co’s, be prepared to wear a label some haven’t worn in awhile, “virgin”. 2Co’s virgins always receive extra special care at the Cabaret, and are sure to be introduced as such. Do not expect to slip in among the crowd to quietly enjoy the show. The theater is not huge, but rather an intimate setting of close tables, some nearly touching the stage, which is barely elevated off the ground.
While 2Co’s does not present a full course meal, the bar food they do offer goes nicely with the evening. Their spinach dip and pizzas are worth a try. When it comes to beverages, 2Co’s offers mixed drinks by the pitcher. Patrons can enjoy a pitcher of love or freak for just $20. These two house specialties are perfect spirits to order for the table.
“Please remember we are a theater that happens to serve drinks; not a bar that does theater,” is a classic line that 2Co’s and Shadowbox both open their shows with. The staff uses humor even during their introduction when reminding guests to keep their outbursts to a minimum and enjoy the show.
