About 14 Ohio State undergraduate advisers met Thursday to continue working on ideas to help aid students in their quest for employment after they graduate.

The first proposed initiative dealt with encouraging alumnus to connect students with their desired careers. The venture would help students see the paths that led previous students into the workforce.

There was also an initiative from the pre-professional subcommittee to produce a Web site to provide students with ideas about employment opportunities.

During the meeting, a list was compiled containing professional and master’s programs available to students with bachelor’s degrees in all majors. These programs aim to qualify students for employment immediately after completion of their undergraduate studies.

“Many times we need to reach out to the students, to make the information more accessible to them,” said Gloria Eyerly, administrative director of the College of Arts and Sciences advising office.

As a student, Eyerly said she didn’t take advantage of Career Services or advising because she was not sure what to ask. She said students sometimes end up with majors and are not sure what to do with them because there is no clear job branch directly tied to their field.

“They believe that they will float into law school after receiving their degree, but what happens if you aren’t accepted” Eyerly said. “These degrees qualify them for a broad range of post-graduate majors that they wouldn’t normally relate their field to.”
