It’s officially still more than a month away, but it’s already beginning to feel a lot like winter. This means people should start getting themselves ready for the blistering cold months ahead.

Every now and then, you’ll see some of the most baffling wardrobe choices. T-shirts and open-toed shoes are great when it’s nice out, but the middle of winter is not what I would call nice. In fact, I’m inclined to believe people wearing these things are masochists.

And although it’s great to look at, girls wearing mini skirts and shorts are the epitome of stupidity. No, your Uggs, which I could write a whole column about (yeah, I hear they’re warm and comfy), won’t magically keep the rest of your body warm. I hope you enjoy freezing to death.

I understand the need to still dress fashionably but there are plenty of ways to do so without exposing yourself to frostbite. I hear they still make clothes that go beyond the knees and elbows. If your closet doesn’t include any of these things, I strongly urge you to look into it.

Now for those from the Midwest, you’re undoubtedly accustomed to snow and the headaches it brings. Especially on the roads.

Without fail, winter driving is continually one of the most frustrating experiences in my life. If you’re from the South and have never seen snow before, don’t freak out. It doesn’t mysteriously turn streets into death traps. Your engine won’t blow up if you go more than 20 miles per hour. Obviously, exercise caution but don’t slow traffic to a crawl just because you don’t know how to drive in the snow. Oh and one piece of advice: don’t try to make a turn while braking – you will spin out.

Hopefully this winter will be relatively mild and won’t result in me being sick several times. I’ll probably regret saying this soon enough but I wouldn’t even mind some snow right now. Although it’s unlikely there’ll be anything again like the blizzard earlier this year, a little bit of snow would really get me in the mood for the holidays.

So here’s to hoping no one gets hypothermia this winter because of a lack of clothing (next Thursday night notwithstanding). I know I’ll be doing my best to survive the elements.
