The Lymphoma and Leukemia Society will hold a triathlon clinic tonight at the Ohio State University Medical Center.
The clinic will offer information on how to find triathlons and how to prepare for them.
“A lot of people hear about triathlons and are curious, but they are really not sure as to the specific details. This is basically an introduction into the sport,” said Dave O’Neil, spokesman for the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society. “Were gonna be able to tell you these are the places you can do a triathlon, were gonna be here at these times, and were gonna be helping you out.”
O’Neil said that OSU Medical Center nutritionist Sarah Wick will speak at the event.
“The information is very important because training for a triathlon really is about nutrition too. First-time participants have no idea what to expect, and the rigorous amounts of training you’re going to go through. The typical college diet doesn’t lend itself too well to competing in a triathlon,” O’Neil said.
The clinic is part of the society’s Team in Training program. The program offers a 16- to 20-week daily training schedule designed for novice to experienced athletes. In return for the coaching, participants receive a “hero,” a local child or adult for whom athletes raise funds to help treat. If athletes meet fundraising goals, the society covers the costs of race registration, round trip airfare and hotel stay for a weekend.
“We feel that Ohio State is a great fit and that it boasts some of the healthiest individuals in central Ohio,” O’Neil said.
The event will be at 6 p.m. tonight at the OSU Medical Center at 2050 Kenny Road. It will be in the auditorium on the first floor.
