More than 1,700 people are expected to attend the 39th Office of Diversity and Inclusion Career and Job Fair in the hopes of landing a job with a big-name company.
Participants are expected to arrive at the Archie M. Griffin Ballroom on Wednesday, dressed to impress and wearing professional attire.
Rose Wilson-Hill, special assistant to the vice president, vice provost and chief diversity officer and director of administration and special programs, said in an email there will be about 100 companies with more than 200 company representatives at the fair to meet with interested students. Companies including Abercrombie and Fitch, Nationwide Insurance and the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium are expected to attend the fair.
“OSU students had the opportunity to pre-register until last Wednesday at midnight. At that time, 1,700 had pre-registered,” Wilson-Hill said.
The event is open to all students, she said.
Students from colleges and universities in the Columbus area can attend. OSU students who didn’t pre-register will have to pay $1 at the door, and non-OSU students will have to pay $5.
While other career fairs held throughout the year don’t charge for admittance, some students said they didn’t mind paying the extra dollar.
“A dollar is not much to have the opportunity to meet a bunch of companies all at once,” said Shaytell Furman, a third-year in social work.
Students will meet representatives on Wednesday and can be invited back for interviews on Thursday. There will be no company exhibitions on Thursday.
The Wednesday fair is scheduled to last from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
