Ohio State University was announced as a founding member of the first-ever Midwestern Collegiate Climate Summit Thursday, in which Midwestern universities will collaborate with local and regional governments as well as private sector leaders to develop innovative climate solutions and focus on moving to a clean-energy economy, according to a press release.

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced the summit in partnership with Lyda Krewson, mayor of St. Louis, Missouri, and University President Michael Drake. Supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, the summit will take place at Washington University in St. Louis.

“Institutions of higher education have the opportunity to develop the research and technology required for a clean-energy economy and the future leaders who will get us there,” Drake said in a statement. “Ohio State is excited about the opportunity from Bloomberg and Washington University to work with students, faculty and resources from institutions throughout the region.”

The Midwestern Collegiate Climate Summit will be held in early 2020.
