Campus dining hall patrons will soon chow down to the sounds of The Underground.According to a recent survey conducted by the USG, 86 percent of students living in the residence halls and eating in the dining commons want to hear music while they are eating.”All the dining halls are being wired for The Underground because it was the easiest to do and it promotes the student radio station,” said Martin Lanning, USG member and co-chairman of the project.Fifty USG members passed out written surveys that were filled out by more than 1,200 students. The survey asked four objective questions, and one asked for suggestions on how the dining commons could be improved.Lanning, like 22 percent of the survey respondents, said he would like to see Buckeye Express made available on the weekends.”There will be further surveying by food services about lengthening the hours of (Buckeye) Express and extending it to the weekends,” Lanning said.”The survey was not done for scientific accuracy, it was done to garnish needs of our customers,” said Timothy Keegstra, director of housing food services.”I’m pleased with any student input whether it is positive or negative,” he said. “We evolve based on student input.”USG’s purpose in conducting the survey was two-fold, Lanning said.”One purpose was outreach, so USG members could get out and talk to the students in the residence halls,” Lanning said. “[USG] asked five questions to find out what students felt about the meal plans.”Lanning said the survey “allows USG to act as the students’ voice about food services issues.”The survey report also indicated that students don’t eat the exact amount of meals on their plans each week. “Students have told us they want a 14-meal plan,” Keegstra said. The residence halls currently offer eight, 10 and 14-meal plans and some students do not eat as many as 19 meals a week or as few as 10, Keegstra said.
