Maybe you should title this letter, “Writer has no facts.” After all, that is the content of the letter written by Will Benedetti. All he is simply doing is spouting the all too familiar anti-Catholic rhetoric without any basis in historical truth. Who were these so-called “law practicing Christians?” I would like him to name a few. Maybe even just one.
Perhaps he is talking of the Judaizers (Jewish Christians) mentioned in Acts 15:1? They said that unless a man was circumsized in the tradition of Moses they could not be saved. Well, that’s heretical by all orthodox standards. Were they the true Christians? Or maybe the Gnostics of the second century were the true Christians. They claimed all matter was evil, and therefore Jesus Christ was not really a man, and his humanity was an illusion. Nope, also heretical. Well, then maybe the Arians of the fourth century could enlighten us. Arius taught that Christ was less than divine, that he was a creature made by God. Still heretical. Or again, Pelagianism of the fifth century, which taught man didn’t need God to make it to heaven.
Sorry, still no proof for Mr. Benedetti. Perhaps because there is no proof for him. If he would simply look at history, he would see truth is on the Catholic side. But maybe he doesn’t want to do that. After all, former Anglican priest-turned Catholic John Henry Newman said “to delve into history is to cease being a Protestant.”
