Get ready to climb to the highest peak in the world, courtesy of the movie “Everest,” shown on an IMAX Theatre screen. The IMAX Theatre, located in the Crosswoods Center at I-270 and Route 23 opens on Friday. Its premier movie is “Everest,” a film full of unbelievable cinematography.”Everest” tells the story of three climbers who posses a passion for climbing that is so intense, they are willing to risk their lives. This true story highlights the personal hardships and victories that each climber struggles with on their way to the top of the world. The top of Mt. Everest, which is located in the Himalayas, is the highest point in the world. Its icy peak soars 29,028 feet above sea level and is still growing at a quarter of an inch per year.As a viewer you feel as if you’re watching the climbers first hand, thanks to the six story movie screen and seven speaker cluster sound system. The IMAX Theatre uses surround sound and the clarity is amazing. The IMAX Theatre itself offers a great atmosphere. Enya was playing over the speaker system and there were interesting facts about the upcoming movie on the screen. Also, the opening promotion for the theatre was incredible. You feel as if you are twisting and turning when actually you’re motionless. Personal space though, leaves much to be desired. The seats while comfortable are cramped because there is not enough leg room. This was the only thing wrong with the design and ambiance of the IMAX Theatre. Overall, the IMAX Theatre delivers. It offers an alternative to an ordinary movie. “Everest” is a great premier. It puts the viewer directly into the lives of climbers. “Everest” gives the viewer the chance to analyze the lives of these three climbers and the struggles they choose to endure makes one wonder why anyone would put themselves into death’s eye willingly.
