Smash Mouth and Boyz II Men, and separately, Seth Meyers, are all scheduled to appear on campus this fall for Ohio Union Activities Board events, the organization announced Thursday.
Smash Mouth and Boyz II Men will perform as part of the “ThrowBACK to School Welcome Week Concert,” which is scheduled to take place on the RPAC North Lawn on Sept. 20 at 5 p.m.
The concert is for OSU students only and students must be prepared to show a valid BuckID upon entrance.
Meyers will perform standup as part of “An Evening with Seth Meyers,” which is scheduled for Oct. 2 at 8 p.m. in the Ohio Union’s Archie Griffin Grand Ballroom.
Tickets for that event will be released Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. at the Ohio Union Information Center and students may receive one ticket per valid BuckID.
Weezer performed at last year’s Welcome Week concert on the South Oval. More than 10,000 people are estimated to have attended that performance, setting a Welcome Week concert record, said Linnea Larson, last year’s OUAB concerts chair.
Previous Welcome Week performers include The Roots in 2008 and T-Pain in 2007.
Pop rockers Smash Mouth rose to fame after the single, “Walkin‘ on the Sun,” from their debut album, “Fush Yu Mang,” reached No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200 in 1997. Other popular singles include “Can’t Get Enough of You, Baby,” “All-Star” and “I’m a Believer.” Albums “Fush Yu Mang” went double platinum, and their second, “Astro Lounge,” released in 1999 went triple platinum.
Boyz II Men, an R&B vocal group, took off in 1991 after the release of their first album, “Cooleyhighharmony.” Singles “End of the Road” and “I’ll Make Love to You” are among the group’s most notable.
Seth Meyers first joined the cast of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” in 2001 and is currently the show’s head writer and anchor of the “Weekend Update” segment. Meyers has also hosted the 2010 and 2011 ESPY Awards, as well as this year’s White House Correspondent’s Dinner.
OUAB did not immediately return requests for comment.
