While traveling around the country in a van packed with heavy equipment and three other people may sound like a prison sentence, for members of Kerosene 454 it’s a dream come true.’It’s great to get out and travel, meet new people and do new things,’ said guitar player Jim Wall. ‘It’s better than pulling a nine to five, 365 days a year. That sucks. That’s not life.’Finding the right mixture of personalities to do it is difficult though. ‘It’s sort of like finding a girlfriend,’ Wall said.Hailing from the nation’s capitol, Kerosene 454’s sound fits in with the D.C. underground rock, although the band puts their own twist of rock ‘n roll into it.Although Washington D.C. has one of the most defined underground sounds of the entire country, Wall describes Kerosene’s sound with difficulty.’Our drummer is really into King Crimson. There’s elements of Black Flag, The Minutemen and other D.C. bands. But, generally, I’d say it’s just good rockin’ stuff,’ Wall said.Kerosene’s new CD, ‘Came By to Kill Me,’ their second release, is the result of several years of evolution and living with each other. ‘We’re a little more comfortable with each other now,’ Wall said. ‘I think it shows.’Though Kerosene would like to reach bigger audiences, Wall said they want to do it on their own terms and under their own control.’We’ve tried giving responsibility to other people but usually they just can’t keep up with the way we want things done,’ Wall said.Kerosene 454 will play at Bernie’s Distillery, 1896 N. High St., Sunday. The show will start around 10:30 p.m.. Cover charge is $2 – $3 for those under 21; about $1 for those 21 and over.
