May 20: A U.S. Army sergeant reported damage to a Dodge van issued to Army ROTC. The van was set on fire by an unknown person when it was parked in the Converse Hall parking lot.

There was damage to the rear window of the van, which was worth about $150, according to University Police.

Morrison’s bulletin board in blazes

May 20: Someone set a bulletin board on fire in the first floor hallway of Morrison Tower. An officer arrived at the building after receiving a report of smoke emanating from the north side of the building.

Several fire trucks had surrounded the building, and students were evacuated. Ceiling tiles and lighting fixtures were also damaged. The fire was put out with a fire extinguisher. The state fire marshall was notified and advised of an arson scene. There are no leads or suspects, according to University Police.

Quick reaction halts air emergency

May 23: An airplane owned by Ohio State had trouble landing during instruction. The OSU Airport director reported the airplane had problems with landing gear and could not land on the runway, according to University Police.

When officers arrived, there was fire equipment on both sides of the runway. After listening to radio communications between the plane and the control tower, the police determined the plane would land in the grass on the north side of the airport.

The plane flew by once to inspect the area before landing. There were no injuries or fire after landing.
