This weekend, the Ohio State women’s soccer team travels to Minneapolis for the Big Ten Tournament. The Lady Buckeyes will first tackle Michigan today at 1:30 p.m. in the opening tournament play. When the two teams first met earlier this season in Ann Arbor, the Wolverines walked away with a 4-1 victory. Michigan’s strongest weapon appeared to be their offensive game. Michigan senior forward Amber Berendowsky, an All-American contender, is the league’s top scorer with 16 goals and 16 assists. In fact, the Wolverines’ offense is made up of three of the leagues’ top four scorers. The Buckeyes have their work cut out for them as they suit up five players chosen for the All-Tournament team. Among the players expected to bring home the victory are junior defender Jennifer Plante, true freshman goalkeeper Amber Barnes, and senior forwards Suttmiller, Tisdale and Stranges. The seventh-place Buckeyes finished their regular season 7-8-1 overall and 4-5-0 in the Big Ten.Last week, in Boca Raton, Fla., OSU blew away the Florida International 3-0, to seize the Nike Soccer Classic. Senior Jodie Stranges led the Buckeye shutout with two goals, followed by senior forward Lisa Suttmiller with one. Stranges finished the weekend with three goals to tie senior forward Tiffany Tisdale as season top scorers with nine goals overall while sophomore defender Maria Jimenez was given the Nike Soccer Classic’s Defensive Most Valuable Player award.
