Vote to keep bars open on Nov. 4
Many Ohio State students are familiar with places like J.R. Miggs, Bier Stube, Panini’s, and Maxwell’s in the south campus area. These, as well as three other restaurants and bars in the south campus area are in danger of losing their liquor licenses on Tuesday. I think that people who don’t drink or frequent any of the bars in this area should be just as concerned about the situation as those who are customers of the threatened businesses. These bars and restaurants are important to the community for at least one very good reason: They are close to campus. OSU students are going to go out to bars and drink. That is just reality. If the liquor licenses are taken away, then there are going to be more people on the road in the campus area with alcohol in their system. That won’t be good for the people doing the drinking and driving and won’t be good for anyone that happens to get in their way.OK, so you think it is a good idea to help keep the restaurants and bars in south campus from being shut down. Your question is “what can I do to help?” Good question. Issues 33B and 34C will be on the Nov. 4 ballot for those in the south campus area. To keep south campus from going dry, vote “YES” on both issues! Precincts 40A and 40B includes the area south of 11th Ave. and west of N. High St. If you live in 40A (the area in south campus west of Worthington St.) your voting place is the King Avenue Methodist Church, on 299 King Ave. If you live in 40B (south campus east of Worthington St.) your voting place is the Northside Library on 1423 N. High St. Make sure you can have a say in what goes on in your community.
