Two bombs were discovered on the front steps of Buckeye Real Estate Friday morning.According to William P. Graver Jr., vice president and general manager of Buckeye Real Estate, the Columbus Division of Police responded to a call from the office at 48 E. 15th Ave. at approximately 8 a.m. Friday. The building houses the real estate office on the ground level and five apartments on the upper levels.Graver said he found broken glass outside the front entrance and an oily substance on the front door. He said when the police and fire department arrived, a bottle wrapped in duct tape was discovered. Residents and office workers were immediately evacuated.Mike Fultz, battalion chief in the public information office for the Division of Fire, said they went to the building expecting to take a report on a fire that had already been put out.Fultz said when the bomb squad arrived they found what they thought to be two Molotov cocktails – one that had gone off and one that had not.It was later discovered that the bombs were MacGyver bombs. Fultz explained the Molotov cocktails are made in a glass bottle containing a flammable liquid. MacGyver bombs, on the other hand, are pressurized bombs.Fultz added that the intent of these bombs is not to start a fire, but to produce an explosion.Graver said this is the second such incident that has taken place in the past 10 days. He said he is not sure who could be doing this, but believes the bomb squad has a list of suspects.Sgt. Earl Smith, spokesperson for the Columbus police, confirmed that the bomb squad would be handling the investigation.Smith also offered some advice. “The only thing you can do if you see something suspicious is just don’t touch it,” Smith said.
