Otterbein plans to increase seating
(The Columbus Dispatch) – Otterbein College wants to replace its stadium grandstand, possibly in time for this fall’s football season.
The college cleared an important hurdle Wednesday when the Westerville Planning Commission approved plans to add 500 seats to the 1,900-seat stadium.
The college must obtain permission from the Westerville City Council to close Center Street in front of the stadium during demolition and construction. The new press box and bleachers would hang over the street.
UW wide receiver faces charges
(U-Wire) – University of Wisconsin football player Ernest Mason appeared in a pre-trial conference Thursday morning at the Dane County Court House.
Mason was arrested last December and charged with disorderly conduct and intimidation of a victim after he allegedly beat his girlfriend in her room in Sellery residence hall and told her not to call the police.
According to the criminal complaint, Mason repeatedly shoved the victim’s head into walls, threw her down stairs and threatened revenge if she called the police.
Harvard janitor released from jail
(U-Wire) – A Harvard janitor accused of groping two students told police that he has attacked dozens more over the last few months, prosecutors said at his bail hearing last week.
Geremias Cruz Ramos, 27, will be released on $1,000 cash bail on the conditions that he surrender his passport and stay away from the Harvard campus.
Although he is only charged with two counts of indecent assault, a Cambridge Police Department officer testified yesterday that Ramos admitted to groping three to four women a week over the past five or six months.
University President Lawrence H. Summers said Friday that Harvard was “gratified by the arrest” and said he had asked the General Counsel’s office to review procedures for background checks on Harvard employees.
