A struggling, shouting woman was dragged out of Hitchcock Hall Monday afternoon, restrained as police arrested her, while several students and faculty members watched in wonderment.
Michelle Moyer, 37, of Columbus was arrested for assault on a peace officer, assault, resisting arrest and criminal trespassing.
An Ohio State staff member and an OSU faculty member were victims of the crime, as well as an Ohio State University police officer.
“Our officers were able to respond quickly to the call and make the arrest,” said OSU Chief of Police Paul Denton.
Two students who remained in the lobby in Hitchcock Hall after the arrest confirmed that they had seen the struggle. An OSU staff member, who wishes to remain anonymous, also witnessed the ordeal.
“She was shouting, ‘I want to see the dean!’ ” the witness said. The Office of the Interim Dean of Engineering was contacted but was unable to comment.
Denton said officers from OSU Police have been in contact with Moyer before.
“There has been an ongoing dispute between her and the university,” he said.
Police and administrators were unwilling to comment on the dispute between Moyer and the university. Because she is a former student, any information that is not public record is protected under the federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, said Jim Lynch, the university spokesman.
