Former Ohio State wide receiver coach Zach Smith was arrested Thursday by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office following an altercation at an elementary school that violated his civil protection order.

Smith was taken to Delaware County Jail after faculty at Scioto Ridge Elementary School did not let him pick up his children, as reported by Kyle Rowland of the Toledo Blade.

The former Buckeye assistant coach was fired by Ohio State on July 23 following accusations of domestic abuse from his ex-wife, Courtney Smith, that led to her filing the civil protection order.

The domestic abuse allegations led to a university investigation that leveled suspensions against former head coach Urban Meyer and athletic director Gene Smith for their handling of Smith on Aug. 22.

The violation is a misdemeanor and Smith will await arraignment at 10 a.m. Friday.
