The Ohio State track and field team prepares for the Big Ten Championship in the Scarlet and Grey Invitational this Saturday.OSU will host University of Akron, Ashland University and Ohio University in the French Field house with field events beginning at 10 a.m. and running events at 12:30 p.m.The Buckeyes have eight athletes who have provisionally qualified for the NCAA tournament. These athletes are senior Erika Goines, holding the school record of 51-9 3/4 for shot put, freshman Andrew Pierce in the 400-meter dash, senior Tameika Porter in the triple jump, sophomore David Gonzalez in the 3000-meter run, and the men’s 4 X 400-meter relay which consists of Pierce, senior Sekou Smith, junior Marlin DeLeon and freshman Reggie German.Goines, Pierce and Porter hold the first place position in the Big Ten Conference. Last weekend, the women’s 4 X 400 relay team broke their school record putting them in second place for the league. The team consists of junior Abeida Benjamin, junior Cathy Rejouis, junior Ayanna Reece and senior Shonda McJunkins.Other top ranking athletes for the league are freshman Dominica Merrimen, who holds second place for the 55-meter hurdles, McJunkin also placing second in the 400-meter dash, Gonzalez with third in the 300-meter run and the men’s 4 X 400 and medley-relay placing third and fourth.
