A quest to end a three-game losing streak will begin for the Ohio States women’s basketball team in Saturday night’s rematch against Iowa for their last weekend ever in St. John Arena.Consecutive losses to Northwestern, Michigan State and Illinois placed the Bucks eighth in the Big Ten at 6-8, and dropped their overall record to 13-10.’We are playing, including Illinois, one, two and three in the league and I think that is a stiff challenge,’ OSU coach Beth Burns said. ‘Being at home will be a plus and it’s a bit of a curve ball being the last game ever in the history of the building.’The Hawkeyes, second in the league with a record of 11-3 and 14-9 overall, lead the series 19-12. They upset the Buckeyes 66-57 in Carver-Hawkeye Arena Dec. 30.The Hawkeyes restrained the Buckeyes leading scorer, forward Larecha Jones, to only nine points that game. Forward Marrita Porter headed the team with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Jamie Lewis was the only other Buckeye to hit double figures with 12 points. Guard Roslyn Barker and forward Michaela Moua will contribute to the Buckeye offense. Moua led the team’s offensive attack against Illinois with a career-high 20 points.’Iowa is as good if not better than anyone in the league,’ Burns said. ‘Last time we met (guard/forward) Angela Hamblin, (forward) Tiffany Gooden and (guard) Cara Consuegra did not play, we essentially played against (Nadine) Domond and their post players, who did a good job.’The Hawkeyes are led at both ends of the court by center Tangela Smith, who is averaging 18.7 points, 8.5 rebounds and leading the league with 2.6 blocks per contest.’I don’t know anyone else except for Tangela Smith, who has the numbers and consistency to be the Big Ten Player of the Year,’ Burns said. ‘We have the honor this weekend of playing both Pollyanna Johns (center for Michigan) and Tangela Smith, who were Big Ten Players of the Week.’Three other players are averaging in double digits-guard/forward Angela Hamblin, guard Nadine Domond and guard Amy Herring.’Iowa has a very tall team and rebounding is a great asset to their team,’ Jones said. ‘Their weakness is their penetration because of their height.’Jones added the two games this weekend would help to prepare them for the Big Ten tournament. The Buckeyes will play their last game of the season against Michigan on Sunday at 2 p.m. in St. John Arena.
