I was extremely upset by the ad for Bodog.com, which ran in Monday’s edition of The Lantern; the staff needs to pull this ad immediately.

The ad for Bodog.com showed an overly sexualized, semi-pornographic scene which included two scantily clad women fighting. As a woman I find this image to be distasteful and offensive, and wonder how such a sexist ad was approved by The Lantern staff.

Secondly, Bodog.com is a company that promotes soft-core pornography and online gambling. The Lantern staff must have no idea how many college students already suffer from problems due to gambling, otherwise they would have thought twice about running this ad.

It seems to me that the screening process for your ads is completely ineffective, and needs to be thoroughly re-examined. I feel that I have the right, as a student at this university, not to be confronted by sexist ads or ads which target the weaknesses of the student demographic. I also think that The Lantern, as a representative of this campus, needs to take more care in what they print and distribute to the student body.
