Parking price hike is absurd, unfair
I’ve been a student at Ohio State for several years now and I’ve finally come to the conclusion that the Ohio State administration hates commuters. I suppose it’s because we (the commuters) don’t pump money into the dorm and cafeteria system. So it was no surprise when I read that OSU plans on doubling the cost of parking tags for main campus parking. According to the front-page story in The Columbus Dispatch Friday, OSU Transportation and Parking Services plans to double the cost of main campus parking to coerce students into purchasing the “more affordable” west-campus parking tags instead. If their purpose is sincere, then why not just slash the west campus parking tag prices to achieve the same effect? The real reason for the cost increase is, most likely, to increase the amount of money OSU pulls out of every student’s wallet (or purse). The Transportation and Parking Services knows that they can pretty much charge anything and still sell parking tags, so why not double the price? In any other area of business these kind of “thug” tactics would not be tolerated, but OSU has the monopoly so they can and will do it.I’ve got a suggestion that will solve it all. First-come, first-serve for parking. Let the department handle the athletic events and leave the students alone.
