Louie Devito will be bringing a little taste of New York with him tonight to Glow Nightclub, 382 W. Nationwide Blvd. Devito is the DJ who put together the best-selling techno compilation series; the NYC Underground Party. This will be his first ever appearance in Ohio.

Since he began spinning in 1991, Devito has rapidly gained popularity and he is now regarded as one of the finest DJs in New York City and the United States. He has played at many of New York’s top clubs, listing his personal favorites as Limelight and Exit.

It was as a young clubber in New York City that Devito first got the idea to go into deejaying. “I was drawn by the power the DJ has over the crowd,” Devito said. “I got hooked.”

In 1999 Devito released his first album, “NYC Underground Party: Volume 1,” on New York-based, Elastik Records. The album was a huge success, receiving rave reviews and much acclaim in the highly competitive genre.

He has since released two more volumes of the NYC Underground series and all three volumes have sold more than 400,000 copies total, outdistancing his closest competitors by a wide margin. The overall popularity of Devito’s NYC Underground Party series has led them to become the number one selling dance compilations ever.

“He is one of the top level DJs we’ve had here,” said Todd Mauger, a representative for Glow. “It’s a great opportunity to come out and see him.”

Devito possesses the ability to seamlessly combine both popular techno and underground music. His sets include an uplifting mix of what he calls progressive trance and house designed to get people moving.

“When I play, I want a lot of energy in the crowd,” Devito said. “I want everyone to be happy.”

Devito said performing live at clubs is by far his favorite thing to do. “I get the most out of playing for dedicated club-goers who are into the music,” he said.

This appearance comes at a busy time for Devito. He is working on the next installment of his mix mastery, “NYC Underground Party: Volume Four,” as well as producing a few of his own songs. There are plans for a U.S. tour which will take place at the end of the summer, as well as a possible trip to Italy. If that’s not enough, Devito also has a mix show every Friday night on 103.5 WKTU in New York.

Opening tonight for Devito will be one of Glow’s resident DJs, Robert Engel. The party will be in full swing, as the club is currently celebrating its Circus Maximus theme to go along with Devito’s visit.

His appearance at Glow kicks off what will surely be a huge summer for Columbus clubbers. Ministry of Sound DJ Johnny Vicious will be at Glow on May 25, and the Washington, D.C. duo, Deep Dish will be at Fabric in June. Also in the works are a possible Gatecrasher residency for the summer.

In addition to his performance tonight, Devito can also be seen at 6 p.m. today at the Virgin Megastore at Easton Mall for an autograph session.
