The Michigan Wolverines are led by no stranger to the way they play football up North.

Lloyd Carr is in his ninth season as the head coach for Michigan and spent 13 other years on the staff. During his tenure at the front of the team, Carr holds an 85-25 overall record and 55-16 Big Ten record. This has put him in the position as the fifth-winningest active Division 1-A coach.

It has been Carr’s privilege to lead the Wolverines through eight Ohio State rivalry games. He has improved the winning record during those competitions by going 5-3. This brought Michigan to hold an even status in the win-loss ratio with OSU in the last 50 meetings. Still, the Wolverines hold the 100-game edge in the series having gone 56-37-6 against the Buckeyes.

Going into Saturday’s competition Carr is in search for his fourth Big Ten conference title for Michigan. He garnered two of these titles in back-to-back seasons starting in 1997. That year the final game was against a No. 4 ranked OSU team. With the largest crowd in Michigan Stadium history, Carr led his squad to a 20-14 victory. This stood as his third straight win over the Buckeyes, and he became only the third Michigan coach to defeat OSU in his first three games.

Even if Michigan walks away with a loss Saturday, it will likely reach a bowl game, something it has done every year under Carr.
