Bill Murray is generally considered to be one of the greatest comedic actors in recent history. Having starred in such phenomenal box office successes as “Caddyshack,” “Ghostbusters,” “Kingpin,” “Rushmore,” and most recently “The Royal Tenenbaums,” how could anyone think otherwise?
Maybe he has struck a few glitches throughout his career – “The Man Who Knew Too Little” comes to mind – but who hasn’t? For the most part he has had a very successful track record.
However, his most recent pet project, “The Sweet Spot,” is a complete and utter disaster. It is, by far, the worst thing he has done on or off the silver screen.
This five-episode special-event series – which began airing at 10 p.m. on April 2 on Comedy Central – features Bill Murray and his three brothers clowning around various golf courses engaging in idiotic comedy sketches in a pathetic attempt at humor. They spout off corny one-liners at each other and call each other stupid names like “jerk” and “fatty.”
Dressing up in ridiculous costumes depicting Ben Franklin, the Boy Wonder and Zorro, they go through the motions of playing a round of golf. The worst part is that they actually think that they are being funny. In reality, this series has very little to do with the actual game of golf and more to do with the brothers making fools of themselves.
In the grand tradition of airing garbage like “BattleBots,” “Let’s Bowl” and “Primetime Glick,” Comedy Central has decided to pick this show up too. It is recommended that this one be skipped – viewers should find a better way to waste their time and kill off their brain cells this Tuesday night.
