The Ohio State women’s basketball team dropped a heart-breaker to Michigan State Sunday afternoon, 74-72, in St. John Arena. The Bucks were down 70-61 with 4:05 left in the second half. They clawed their way back into the game, scoring 10 unanswered points to take the lead 71-70 with 2:27 to go in the game on junior forward Larecha Jones’ three-point play. They would extend the lead to two with 17 seconds to go on a free throw by freshman guard Jamie Lewis. Spartan senior guard Jamie Wesley has other ideas about a Buckeye victory as she took the inbounds pass, dribbled it the length of the court, laid it in and was fouled.’I was going to take it to the hole.’ Wesley said. ‘I was very confident in bringing it up, and I was going to the hole regardless, I think.”Obviously we allowed dribble penetration and way too many people going coast to coast and that happened throughout the game,’ said Buckeye coach Beth Burns. ‘The irony now is that is how we also ended up losing the game.’Wesley missed the free-throw, but Spartan sophomore guard Maxann Reese grabbed the rebound, dished it to freshman forward Becky Cummings, who was promptly fouled with four seconds to go. She made both her free throws to seal the victory for the Spartans. The Buckeyes were lead by Jones who had 29 points and also had a team-high 10 rebounds. The Spartans had a trio leading in the scoring department, with Wesley, sophomore forward Kristen Rasmussen and senior forward Bella Engen all scoring 20 points each. The Buckeyes next game is Friday night on the road against the Fighting Illini of Illinois at 8:30.
