To the Editor:

The problem with dorms is that they cost nearly twice as much as a “cruddy apartment” where you can cook your own food, have your own room, drink alcohol (in some places), have a pet and so on and so on. Not so cruddy, after all.

It costs roughly $650 a month to live in a dorm – without food costs. If you live on campus chances are you use the meal plan costing roughly $7 a meal. Do you like paying $7 for a hot tea? I don’t. Before I graduated I paid $270 after utilities for a clean, remodeled places right next to campus with a great courtyard. I paid roughly $35 a week on food and had plenty to share.

If you do the math, you’ll find out that dorms really do suck.
