Columbus’s first Restaurant Week began Monday and continues through March 15 with more than 40 Columbus restaurants participating. Each restaurant, whether casual or fine dining, has prepared a special fixed-price menu of either $15 or $30, excluding gratuity and tax.

“Whether you want to try a new restaurant or treat yourself to a favorite, Restaurant Week is a great opportunity for residents and visitors alike to sample the culinary skills of Columbus chefs,” said Diane Warren, president of Dine Originals Columbus, which coordinates the week-long celebration.

Dine Originals Columbus was formed spring 2003 as a collaboration of local independent restaurants, according to the Web Site.

“Independent restaurants define the culinary diversity and culture of a city and this is a wonderful way to showcase the varied and unique restaurants in Columbus,” Warren said. In addition to chairing Dine Originals Columbus, Warren also owns Katzinger’s Delicatessen in German Village.

Instead of directly competing against each other, Dine Originals restaurants collaborate on certain ventures, such as Restaurant Week.

“Many major cities throughout the country have been hosting a restaurant week for years,” Warren said. “These events are popular because they are a win-win for everyone. Diners can enjoy wonderful meals at a very inviting price and the restaurants can enjoy introducing themselves to new guests and offering a great value to their regulars also.”

Participating restaurants include Bodega, Surly Girl Saloon and Tasi Cafe, all in the Short North, and Alana’s Food and Wine on North High Street, just north of campus. A list of participating restaurants and their fixed-price menus is available at DineOriginalsColumbus.com.
