Democratic town hall application made available to Ohio State community

A Google Form application to attend the upcoming Democratic town hall at Ohio State was sent via email to the students of the John Glenn College of Public Affairs on Thursday.

The event, to which former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders have been confirmed to attend, is scheduled to be held at Mershon Auditorium from 8 to 10 p.m. on Sunday.

The application is open to all OSU students, faculty and staff, but will not be open to the general public, according to a university spokesman. Both candidates’ campaigns are expected to attend the forum, and seating available to the OSU community is expected to be significantly limited.

He added that CNN provided the application, and it will also be selecting which applicants from OSU will attend the forum.

In the application obtained by The Lantern, participants are given options to submit questions for both Clinton and Sanders. The form does, however, require applicants to state their political party registration and the county in which they are registered to vote. The application also requires applicants to choose between Clinton, Sanders and “undecided.”

The email also states that applicants selected to attend the event will be contacted by CNN with detailed instructions regarding participation.

Chris Adams, assistant director of Admissions and Student Services at the John Glenn college, said in the email that CNN is set to choose participants from the pool of applicants, meaning simply filling out the form does not guarantee one access to the event.

The Office of Rep. Joyce Beatty has confirmed that both Clinton and Sanders will be at the event. The congresswoman’s office told The Lantern on Tuesday that Beatty helped facilitate the forum and coordinated with OSU.

The application can be found here.

Clarification March 11: A statement in this article was clarified to make clear that applicants are not guaranteed to be chosen to attend.

  1. Meaning simply filling out the form does, or does not, guarantee access to the event? That construction’s a little odd; is there a logical slip there?

  2. THIS IS A POS. Only students at OSU ? Why? This will anger a lot of people who will feel betrayed.

  3. Are alumni permitted? This process seems very silly.

  4. Hillary for prez! Open borders keep my labor costs low.

  5. Okay, I filled out the form, but when will we know if were invited? I’m on a trip to NC, so I’d have to get plane tickets back tomorrow morning–meaning I need to reserve them *RIGHT NOW*. I know everyone wants to keep this all secretive and under wraps, but I need to know whether I’m accepted so I don’t blow $700+ on airfare for nothing.

    • You seriously would spend a bunch of money to fly back just to see long winded politicians in person? Wow. Perhaps a hobby is in order for you?
