Head coach Urban Meyer had one goal in mind as Ohio State moved on from its bye week and into its game week against Nebraska: move on from Purdue.

The last time the Buckeyes left the football field, it was after a 49-20 pounding by the Boilermakers in West Lafayette, Indiana, dropping Ohio State to the No. 11 spot in the AP Top 25 poll.

With the Buckeyes up to No. 8 after its bye week, Meyer said he wants his team, the next time it takes the field against the Cornhuskers, to be completely rid of all the feelings of the loss on Oct. 20.

“The whole clear the air, get the bad taste out of your mouth and move forward and that was the objective of last week and, as fast as you can, get involved in a Nebraska team that’s hitting the stride pretty good,” Meyer said.

Meyer said he met with the team on Tuesday, trying to get this idea ingrained in the minds of his players. Then the team went to work, trying to fix the things Meyer said hurt Ohio State against Purdue: the penalties, the double-digit missed tackles and the running game.

Specifically in the running game, Meyer said his team needs to have the ability to make holes on the offensive line, creating holes in the line even when they are not there.

In the past, Meyer acknowledged this has been a trademark for the Ohio State offense, getting players to the second level.

“That’s something we’ve been pretty good at around here is getting athletes in space, and we haven’t been able to do that,” Meyer said.

However, the running game is only one area of improvement Meyer said is necessary for Ohio State as October turns into November. This is a feeling that is all around the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, an urgency surrounding the team after its first loss of the season to the Boilermakers.

But this is something Meyer understands. He knows where his team is at moving forward.

“We understand November. We understand where we’re at. We understand what’s at stake, and we understand our shortcomings,” Meyer said. “So urgency is probably the key word around here. Hard to say I’ve ever seen a group of staff work as hard as we’ve worked so try to fix the issues and same with our players.”
