In only the second all-time meeting between the Buckeyes and Tigers, the Ohio State women’s volleyball team swept its way past Missouri, advancing to the regional semifinals in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016.
Despite an unprecedented spring season with a new coaching staff, the Buckeyes qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016 under head coach Jen Flynn Oldenburg.
Following 3-1 loss Friday in which No. 9 Ohio State (15-3) dropped its final three sets, the Buckeyes were unable to capitalize on its opening set momentum for a second straight game and dropped the series finale 3-1 (25-20, 24-26, 21-25, 18-25) to No. 10 Purdue (13-5).
No. 10 Purdue (12-5) was able to rally and claim the final three sets and the match (20-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-22). The loss marked only the second of the season for No. 9 Ohio State (15-2).
The Buckeyes are looking to defend their home court in their final series at the Covelli Center against the Boilermakers.
With a 3-0 victory Saturday to push the weekend advantage to 6-1, No. 9 Ohio State (15-1) steamrolled Michigan (4-5) to keep its season momentum going.
No. 9 Ohio State (14-1) by no means felt obligated to be gracious on its floor while hosting Michigan (4-4,), claiming a 3-1 victory during the first match of their series this season. The night ended the seven-game win streak the Wolverines held over the Buckeyes.
No. 9 Ohio State (13-1) welcomes Michigan (4-3) for Friday and Saturday bouts at the Covelli Center.
