Abortion limits may protect rights

First I would like to point out that Ms. Weeks’ article points out one of the serious problems I have with the abortion “industry.” That provision in most health care plans to cover abortions was gained by intense pressure from National Organization for Women and Planned Parenthood. These changes did not happen overnight. Some health care plans do cover birth control but more would if the same effort was put into it that led to the inclusion of abortion in health care plans.Second, let’s say that hypothetical 14 year old lives in a dysfunctional family. What she really needs is family counseling and not an abortion. The parent is still responsible for the welfare of the child. Would any other non-emergency surgical procedure be performed on her with out parental consent? No, certainly not! The doctor would fear losing badly in a lawsuit. Then it comes to the unwanted child argument. That is a non-issue because many couples would be glad to adopt the newborn infant and give the baby a good home.If you have not already figured it out, I believe in the biological fact that human life begins at conception, and I also believe that taking a human life is wrong. If this is considered an extremist view then so be it. However, while Roe v. Wade is the law of the land, 24-hour waiting periods and parental consent for minors are reasonable and constitutional laws that are meant to protect a woman’s health and to make sure she understands all her choices. For balance on the propaganda in the abortion debate you might also want to go to www.ohiolife.org.
