Mike Lockwood did it again at Bill Davis Stadium Thursday night, slamming his 18th home run of the season against the Pittsburgh Panthers.Lockwood, who has hit seven home runs in the last four games, is now only one home run away from tying the team record.”I’m not going out there trying to hit home runs,” Lockwood said. “I’m not even worried about breaking the record.”The Buckeyes came off with a 5-3 win against the Panthers, pleasing coach Bob Todd.”We were able to capitalize on some walks,” Todd said. “Overall, I think we competed and did well.”It was a slow, rainy game as Panther Chris Gallick allowed no hits to the first nine Buckeye batters he faced. Lockwood stepped up in the third ready to change the pace, and pounded an opposite-field home run to give the Bucks a one run lead. Cory Cox started the game for the Bucks, pitching two innings and showing coach Todd some improvement.”Cory is slowly getting better and better,” Todd said. “He’s still pitching behind some batters but he’s mixing in his fastball much better.”While the Panthers were outhitting the Bucks 5-1, OSU still led 1-0 through six innings.OSU’s dry spell ended in the seventh as Lockwood again provided a devastating blow, clearing the bases with a double to give the Bucks a five-run lead.Pittsburgh managed to get on the board again in the eighth before Mike Stafford came in and surrendered one run, but picked up his sixth save of the year. The Buckeyes look to Michigan State this weekend, one of their biggest series of the season.”We have to go out there and take care of business this weekend,” Todd said.
