In response to John Ross’ column regarding the planned renovation of the Oval and the campus construction that is currently ongoing, I agree that it is a painful process that nobody likes but must be endured so Ohio State can improve many of its outdated facilities. The additional two minutes, however, that it takes to walk around construction sites, the Oval or otherwise, is a small price to pay for the incredible facilities future students will get to use for the next 50 years.
Every generation of students has had to deal with construction – Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was Ohio State. I’m actually impressed that the university would commit to putting money into a space that is used daily, more than any other space on this campus. I just hope that President Holbrook can find some money toward an endowment to keep it well maintained.
After all, we spent $400 million on athletic facilities in the last six years. Surely we can find some money to keep our campus beautiful once construction is finished. Besides, I would rather have the Oval restoration done now and have Page, Hagerty and the Oval finished at the same time then stretch out construction on the Oval a day longer than is necessary.
