OSU office sorry for Richter mix-up

The Office of Student Activities would like to extend our apologies and accept full responsibility for the Andy Richter cancellation. In our efforts to program to the student body, we are attempting to bring “big names” to campus. In working with such talent, the inexplicable details of show business often interfere, as it did in our case at Ohio State. Due to “May sweeps,” a critical television rating period, Richter was forbidden to leave the sets by Late Night’s producers in order to tape extra sketches. We found out about the cancellation a week prior to the event and spent several days trying to negotiate the event, but producers would not release him. While ODUA was a co-sponsor for the event, it was the responsibility of our office to relay the cancellation to campus. As this is the first time such a thing has happened, we did not handle this situation in a proper or timely fashion, and we apologize. We will continue to try to recruit speakers and performers of interest to the campus, including rescheduling Richter for a fall date.
